How to win competitions

- Never underestimate competitions on the web, advertisers promote their products through competitions and real people win these real prizes.
While there is no secret formula to winning competitions I'll explain what resources I use. Generally I win three competitions a week. I like to get my entries in as early as possible to ensure they are in the draw bag. Some people leave theirs as late as possible but some competitions close earlier than the described closing date, particularly internet competitions. Never be tempted to cheat by filling in multiple entries nor doing competitions for other family members. This will lead to automatic disqualification if caught: and many sites have specialised software to monitor such cheating.
Do ensure you comply with the site rules and regulations and fill out the competition entry form out correctly. An online automatic form filler like Roboform is handy to help you do this quickly.

    Competition Postcards


    Competition postcards can be obtained for free from some cinemas and coffee shops and other retail outlets. They usually have an advert from a sponsor on one side and the other side has room for your competition entry answer and contact details with space for the competition address. Some sellers on ebay bulk sell competition postcards specifically aimed at compers. Their listed usually include a photo of the competition postcards. Do ensure with the seller that the postcards are unused and not sold for their collecting interest. Some compers believe that by using bright and interesting looking postcards their entry is more likely to be picked from the hat. There could be some truth in this because many competition organisers ask a third party to pull a postcard from the mailbag. In some cases they ask children to do this to add a bit of fun to running their competitions. The kids may be more likely to choose a brightly coloured competition postcard.

    Other people who analysis how to win internet and postcard competitions think that if you cut a serrated edge onto your competition entry postcards with special crimping scissors this brings more winning luck. This could be because some competition organisers put their hand into the mail bag without looking and an unusually feeling postcard is more interesting to pull out.


    Competition Newsgroups

    Join uk.rec.competitions newsgroup through your e-mail account or on the web for tips, competition news and help and support from fellow compers.


    How To Sell Your Unwanted Winnings

    I sometimes make extra cash by selling unwanted winnings (usually the runners up prizes as I don't enter competitions unless I really want the prize) on the auction sites listed at the auction page where you can read more tips and information.
